I met Dr Lam while I was working as a Life Agent for New
York Life Insurance Company through an acquaintance whom I
have met at a networking event organized by Club-E in Irvine.
It was sometime in August 2008, I called up Dr Lam and asked if she
could meet me at Starbuck cafe in Fountain Valley so we
could discuss about her needs for life insurance. Dr Lam
was very understanding and generously helped me out because I haven't had any
clients since June. I was struggling to find a real job that
pays a salary, not commissions, since April 2008, when I quitted my job at the Auto
Club of Southern California due to unsafe working
environment.
I was blessed that Dr Lam came into my life when I
needed help the most. She invited me out to lunch many
times--she and her three lovely daughters and I quickly became good
friends. I later introduced Dr Lam to one of my very first few clients,
Tina Shin. I've met Tina at
the Crystal Cathedral Church in Orange sometime in July
2008, when I came to
participate in the Toast Masters Group that met every
Thursday at 7:00 am. My purpose in joining the group was to
improve my public speaking because I never had the courage to speak in front of a crowd. I cannot think on my
feet and I don't like the preparation process for a speech, period!
And well,
another purpose was to find some clients. One day it was my
turn to give a speech in front of the group about myself, my
job, my family and friends. I told the group that I had lived in
Paris for 10 years and had written a book which was
published by Mainstream Publishing in Scotland in January
2008. Guess what? Of course, they were all amazed!
Some Toast Master members generously bought the UK version from
me, which was not cheap because the of the exchange rate from
English pounds to US dollars. Tina was the only one who asked me
about my profession and she said that she is
currently looking for life insurance. I was absolutely
thrilled! Tina's compassion and generosity have saved me and my
son from starvation, and she has been continuing to pray for me whenever I
needed courage and strength to keep on going forward, either
from failures or success.
Eventually, Tina and Dr Lam became good friends and acquaintances
through Life Wave. Tina introduced Dr Lam to these
nanotechnology patches that produce miraculous health-related
results without the introduction of chemicals, herbs, or
physical device into the body... in another words, it's a
multi-level-marketing. Dr Lam tried the products and
loved it. She became an active distributor and enrolled me as
one of her down-line distributors. I'm currently not into
these products as yet, perhaps sometimes in the near future...
Then, one day Dr Lam called and invited me to attend an
SGI
meeting at Patty's house in Yorba Linda. She briefly
explained that the idea of this Buddhism practice lies in the
belief of self-motivated inner change of a single individual,
which positively affects the larger web of life, and results in
the rejuvenation of human society. At that time, I was
just newly converted to Christianity
at the Crystal Cathedral, therefore I was not really focus to
learn more about the practice. However, the warmth, hospitality,
friendliness, and sincerity of the members of this group have
touched my heart and soul. So, this morning, I became an SGI
member after many months partaking as a guest. I felt
amazingly like a brand-new person who is starting a brand-new
life!
I sincerely thank Dr Lam, Tina, Patty, Akemi, and all other SGI
members who are helping me to overcome my struggles in creating
a new life for me, my sons, and my mother as one loving family.
One thing I know for sure that I will start chanting,
chanting and chanting!
