A Saturday @ the Polo Games

On Saturday I called up a friend to give me a ride to Chantilly (about 45km from Paris) to see the Polo games for the very first time. We left the city at 3pm, got stuck in the traffic and did not get to the Polo Club until two hours later. (I could never imagine myself driving in Paris... I would go mad!)

But at least we were lucky with the weather--it was perfect...hot and sunny at 40º C. We were like burning in the oven--the car did not have AC.  Alors, we finally arrived at the farm just in time to watch the second match. We drove quickly to the parking lot, there we spotted a Lamborghini and several Porsche sport cars on the grass field. Once we've entered the Club bar in front to meet up with some other friends, I found myself staring at what the gentlemen were wearing... then my eyes rolled down to his shoes.

Humm... I wonder why? I smiled amusingly while comparing the linen outfits that I see here to the birthday suits on Ask Andy--and adding to the attraction, most gentlemen here came from Argentina, a few French and Spanish... all were gorgeous, indeed.

After a half-hour tour of checking out the crowd, we went out to the playing field, sat down on the grass just like the others and watched the game. Then I got up some minutes later, strolling slowly to the end of the field where the polo ponies were kept to snap some close-up photos.  I bet those ponies must be very tired... I could hear them breathe heavily--I began to like horses a lot.

OK...enough about the ponies we headed back to the games. Oh before the final game ended, there was one thing though... next time I will remember to bring my own drinks because refreshments had cost me an arm and a leg here! (a small bottle of water was 4€, a can of coke was 3€...WOW!)  I didn't even bother to look at the champagne.

I was lost in a rich world...but it was fun and entertaining. I liked it! © 1998-2006 Paris Woman Journal
